This workshop will take place on Tuesday, August 20th, 2019. Led by Glenn Mitoma, Director of the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center at the University of Connecticut and Alan Marcus from the NEAG School of Education, this session will focus on the challenges and opportunities of teaching the Holocaust and Genocide through film. This workshop will examine why and how to use both feature and documentary films to spur deep learning about one of the difficult subjects in any curriculum. Participants will reflect on what it means to teach “difficult histories”, consider how film be effectively deployed in various classroom settings, and explore examples of specific strategies and films.
